In their first scrimmage of the 2019 season, the men’s soccer team defeated Troy Christian 2-0 at home on Saturday afternoon, August 10. The Firebirds started fast pressing high on the Eagles and got on the scoreboard just 10 minutes into the game when Josue Martinez served a long ball into the box. Freshman Bryce Roberts headed the ball across the goal mouth to junior Sam Fiscus who found the back of the net. 10 minutes later senior Fabrice Uwihirwe stripped the right back of possession and beat the keeper to the far post 1v1 and doubled the lead.
The Birds held the possession advantage in the match and despite creating additional scoring chances, could not add another to their tally. Troy Christian finished the 2018 season ranked #6 in Ohio for Division 3 and reached the regional semi-finals in the OHSAA tournament.
