The JV Firebirds played a strong game, keeping their opponents on their toes throughout the game. The first half only saw 1 goal, which was in favor of the Home team, Beavercreek. As the Firebird’s goalkeeper gained possession of the ball in her hands, while she was on the ground, the Beavercreek forward kicked it out of her hands and into the goal. This accounted for the first goal of the game and would be the score going into half time.
The second half was just as intense as the first, with both teams creating good scoring opportunities. Creek was able to get a second goal with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Firebirds would keep fighting, as they were determined to score a goal against this powerhouse soccer program. With only 3 minutes remaining in the game, the Firebirds began to see momentum as they continued to pressure. Sofiyah Griffith challenged the goalkeeper on a ball inside the box and caused the it to land at the feet of Savanna Vickers. Savanna blasted the ball into the goal for the Firebirds, putting them on the board. Hyped up, the Firebirds pressed hard up field, creating a few more great opportunities. Freshman Sam Pochet barely missed a goal, as she sent the ball up and over the top of the goal, hitting the top of the net and just missing the cross bar, as she fired a shot from about 20 yards off a free kick. The Beavers would go on to win 1-2 in this hard fought game.
