The Fairmont Firebirds beat a tough Trotwood team 64-47 at Trent Arena in a Wednesday night GWOC showdown. The Firebirds were led by Madeline Westbeld with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Madison Bartley added in 15 points while going 9-9 from the Free Throw Line. Kierra Thornton added in 13 points, Makira Webster 9, Mallory Hullinger 3, and Mari Carter with 1.
The Firebirds controlled the rebounding edge throught-out the game, but Trotwood countered with big shots in the first half. At halftime the game was 28-24 Firebirds. In the quarter, the Birds switched defenses and held the Rams to only 10 points while Fairmont scored 17.
The Birds conrolled the final 8 minutes and came away with a good victory vs an active Trotwood team. The Firebirds go to 12-1, while the Rams drop to 7-5.
Fairmont now heads to the biggest girls basketball event in the Midwest, known as The Classic in the Country at Berlin Hiland High School. The Birds take on State Finalist Canton GlenOak on Saturday at 4:30pm and then take on Eastlake North from Cleveland, who also has a roster loaded with talented players on Sunday at 1:30. Its a big weekend for the team and girls basketball! Go Birds!
