The Fairmont Firebirds were victorious over a solid Springboro squad 52-48. The game at Springboro was packed and the opposite bleachers had to be opened for the large crowd. The Panthers jumped to an early 11-0 lead before the Firebirds put points on the board. The game was tied after the first quarter. The Birds then put-up a nice defensive effort in the 2nd quarter and gave-up only 5 points. The halftime score was 26-20 in favor of the Firebirds.
The Firebirds then controlled most of the second half and held the Panthers in-check the last two possessions to pull-out a great road GWOC victory.
Madeline Westbeld led all scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Kierra Thornton had a tremendous game with 12 points and also was a leader on the defensive-side. Madison Bartley added in 11 points and is now 2 shy from 1,000 career points. Mallory Hullinger, Makira Webster, Mari Carter, and Kyndall Ketterer also added important possessions though-out the 2nd half. It was a great team win!
Fairmont is now 9-1 and travel to Northmont on Saturday. Go Birds!
