The long holiday weekend extended into the first game of the week against rival Centerville as Fairmont came out a little sluggish to begin the game. At the 26:14 mark, Bien Bisetsa made an outstanding save that rebounded back into the box. Unfortunately Mason Mata tripped up an oncoming Centerville forward, resulting in a penalty conceded. Bisetsa could not make a save allowing Centerville to take the early lead 1-0. Both teams had a few opportunities but could not capitalize the rest of the half. The last opportunity was a corner served to the 18 as Gradey Dombrauckas shot wide to the right as the clock expired.
The Birds came out the second half with more pressure on the ball. The Centerville keeper had 5 saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The momentum was stalled with a few errant passes and lost 50-50 balls.
Centerville struck again at the 12:07 mark as a slotted ball was played through a un-maintained back line allowing the Centerville forward to run the ball down and maintain control of the ball after a hard tackle by defender Sam Dewald.
The extra goal could have taken the wind out of the Birds’ sails but Sam Dewald was able to find Jerod Hargrave at the 8:35 mark to half the score as new life was breathed back into the young team. This confidence booster saw fruition as Maddox Fourman assisted Jerod’s second goal of the evening at the 4:52 mark. The Birds were able to come away with a draw against rival Centerville 2-2.
The Birds (1-2-2) travel to Wayne on Thursday, September 10 at 5:30PM.
