The JV Birds traveled to Centerville for a match against the Centerville JV-A Team. The team tied the Centerville JV-B team at home a few weeks earlier. Fresh off a solid win against Miamisburg, the young team tried to be competitive with the Elks. The Elks were able to get 4 shots off in the first 5 minutes of the half with the fourth shot finding the back of the net at the 31:28 mark. Centerville was able to take the ball to the baseline and cut the ball back across the middle for the score. With an early score, the young JV team showed some resilience and were able to keep the Elks from taking total control of the game in the first half as the Elks were called for offsides 3 times in the first half. The Elks got their second goal of the game at the 3:24 mark on a corner kick. Keeper Bien Bisetsa attempted to punch the ball but it ended up hitting the corner of the post and skidded into the goal for the 2-0 lead. Centerville had 17 shots on goal to the Fairmont 3 shots.
The JV Birds started the second half with a little energy. In the first two minutes of the half, midfielder Youcef Hennaoui was able to create space and pass the ball to Mason Mata on the right side. Mason quickly passed the ball to striker Saddler Alexander whose cross into the box was untouched. The backside had not anticipated the quick ball movement and an opportunity was lost. A couple minutes later Mason was able to strike a shot from about 22 yards out only to be saved by the Elk keeper. Eleven minutes into the half, speedster Jerod Hargrave had a 1-1 opportunity only to be stopped by a strong tackle from the Elk defense at the top of the box. Unfortunately, the momentum switched to the Elks as the Elks got their third goal of the game with a beautiful cross that found a header to the back corner of the goal at the 23:50 mark. The Centerville attack was relentless for the next few minutes as Keeper Bien had quite a few saves. The fourth goal was only 90 seconds later as Centerville switched fields quickly and was able to catch a tiring JV Bird team unable to keep pace. Centerville was able to get more goals with two goals in the final minute of the game and a 7-0 shutout.
The JV Birds are home on Tuesday against Wayne and look to get their 5th win on the season in front of the friendly home crowd.
