We are excited to finally play competitively against other teams and schools this week! The Varsity and JV travel to Tecumseh on Tuesday for a 6:00pm scrimmage. Parents are welcome to attend, but must wear a mask and social distance per Tecumseh Schools. On Friday night, we will host Lebanon for our only Home scrimmage. The Varsity will be in the Arena, JV in the Main, and Freshmen will travel to Lebanon. Those scrimmages all begin at 6:00pm. Parents will also be allowed, but must wear a mask and social distance.
Saturday the 7th, all teams will participate in our Shoot-A-Thon during practice. I’ve attached the forms and will give players hard copies this week. The Shoot-A-Thon is the only fundraiser we do during the season. Players get sponsors throughout this week and then on Saturday, all players will shoot 100 Free Throws. All Free Throws will be recorded on their forms. Once they determine their makes, they will go to their sponsors to collect any money they earned. Sponsors can be as simple as 25 cents per make, a dollar per make, or whatever denomination they choose. The goal for each player is to raise $100 this year. Last year, we raised over $7,000 as a team and Serena Baker was our top earner. This year the Top 2 Earners will receive free shoes of their choice! All money collected goes directly to Girls Basketball and will be used to purchase gear and for entry to shoot-outs this summer. This is a very successful fundraiser and helps our whole program.
Also, we will be having a Virtual Parents Meeting on Sunday the 8th at 8:00pm via ZOOM. I will go over info and expectations for the season. I will do my very best to be brief and also answer any questions we might have (via the chatbox). Here is the info for that and I will send a reminder again later in the week.

Finally, the girls have done a great job so far. I love their effort and enthusiasm. We spent a lot of time on Saturday as a program to go over the paperwork that went home with them: (November calendar, shoes for those that need/want to order some, Game schedule, and Bus Schedule. We also went over Training Room expectations with Erin from Sports Medicine. We did include Covid protocols and gave each girl a Fairmont Basketball mask. It was a lot of information, but information that was relevant and also important. We have an excellent group that is very young (no seniors, 4 juniors, 11 soph, and 14 freshmen), so we have a lot of work to do to get where we need to be.
PS: I am looking forward to this week of practices and scrimmages, along with our first 6:00am morning practice for Varsity tomorrow! Remember, if you’re early you’re on time–if you’re on time, you’re late! Let’s Go!
Thanks and Go Birds!
