The Fairmont volleyball program travel to Springfield on Thursday evening. After a long week of volleyball the JV and Varsity teams were able to come home with wins.
The JV team won in 2 sets tonight. Scores were 25-19 and 25-10 Their consistent play and communication helped bring home the win.
The Varsity team started off the night strong from the service line and took the first set 25-20, but the Wildcats didn’t give up. With a slow start to the second set the Birds lost 22-25. The Wildcats continued to play aggressive and kept the pressure on the Firebirds. Unable to gain any momentum the Firebirds lost set 3, 17-25. Going into the 4th set the Firebirds were down 2 sets to 1. They were in a must win set and they decided to come out and compete. Bringing in 17 kills they won 25-18. The sets were now tied at 2-2 with the 5th set being played to 15. The Firebirds went point for point with the Wildcats, but got down 7-11. With great focus and determination they were able to fight back and brought the score to 12-12. The Wildcats called their last time out and the Birds did not let up. They played their most aggressive defense in the final 3 points of the match and came up with a 15-12 victory.
The Varsity team had 6 blocks, 12 aces, 54 kills, and 114 digs
The Firebird volleyball program will compete at home on Monday, 10/5, against Miamisburg. Freshman will play at 5 pm. JV at 6 pm. Varsity at 7 pm.
