Coed Varsity Wrestling · WRESTLING WEEKLY – MARCH 16

Parents & Athletes:

The original plan for this “Wrestling Weekly” was to celebrate the culmination of our season with (hopefully) great news from the State Tournament.  Obviously, everything has changed for all of us.

Regardless of what any of us think about this scenario, none of us have any control over it.  As we try to teach our athletes,  we only have control of how we respond to it!  So we are choosing to be grateful, thankful, positive, and keep the wrestling program moving forward!

Congrats to our 2 senior state qualifiers – Evan Overholser & Nevan Snodgrass.  The OHSAA gave us a sliver of hope that the state tournament may be rescheduled but the reality is we don’t know (and we are not real optimistic about it, to be quite honest).  But what these two young men accomplished is amazing and should be recognized!

2019-2020 – Team Captain / Academic All-Ohioan / 40-8 Record / State Qualifier / District Runner-up / Sectional 3rd / GMVWA Honorable Mention / GWOC 2nd Team

Career – 104-40 Record / 1x State Qualifier / 3x District Qualifier / Sectional Champion

College – USAFA or West Point

2019-2020 – Team Captain / 23-1 Record / State Qualifier / District Champion / Sectional Champion / GMVWA 1st Team / GWOC 1st Team / Top 6 national ranking

Career – 132-17 Record / 3x State Placer / 4x State Qualifier / 3x District Champion / 4x Sectional Champion / 3x GWOC Champion / Numerous school records

College – University of Northern Iowa

In addition to all of those impressive stats, both of these young men have set a standard for our program.  We are indebted to them and I hope to be able to recognize them formally in the near future.

Obviously, the Awards Banquet scheduled for 3/31/20 is canceled.  At this point, we cannot give you a revised date.  Once we are back in school (), we will reschedule.

(Senior Parents – I have taken down the banners from Trent and have them in my office for safekeeping.  You will get them at some point!)

At this point, we cannot give you our off-season schedule.  As soon as we are able to start working, we will finalize a schedule and update everyone.

  1. Let’s all stay safe and support one another!
  2. Let’s be good citizens.  Find a way to help others.  Could be as simple as checking on family members or the elderly.  Whatever you can do, do it!
  3. Students – once we go to E-Learning (March 30), keep focusing on being the best you can be academically!
  4. Athletes – we can’t formally train for at least 3 weeks.  Be creative and find ways to train and enhance your wrestling.  Heck, Herschel Walker used to do bodyweight exercises (lots of them!) and sprints!  And maybe use that phone for watching wrestling technique videos instead of Snap Chat!

We will get through this together.  If you need anything, let me know!
