Girls Junior Varsity Soccer · Women’s Soccer – JV Stretches Shut-Out Win Streak to 5 with Win over Xenia

The JV Women’s Soccer squad traveled to Xenia to face off against the Bucs on Monday.  They stretched their shut-out win streak to 5 in a Row with their 6-0 victory.

Fairmont JV held Xenia to Zero shots as Lily Nickell recorded her 7th shut-out of the season.  The Firebirds poured on the shots the first half with 20, but had trouble finding the back of the net until 10 minutes remained in the first half.  Sophomore Savanna Vickers fired a shot from just outside the 18 yard box, off to the left, after collecting the ball from Captain Corinne Tew.  The ball zoomed over the goalkeeper’s head, struck the cross bar, and bounced straight down fiercely over the goal line.  Fairmont would take this lead into half time, where they would regroup and figure out how to be more productive with their shots.

The second half began and the Lady Firebirds struck quickly as Freshman Caitlin Blair fired a shot about 10 yards out, on the left side of the goal.  She followed her shot as it was deflected off the goalkeeper, where she was able to capitalize for her 1st Career Goal, only 1 minute into the half.  Fairmont would not stop there as they continued to rip shot after shot against Xenia throughout the half.  About a minute and a half later the Firebird offense put relentless pressure on the Buc defense to create a turnover.  Savanna Vickers fired another rocket shot around the 18 yard box, into the back of the net, for her second goal of the game.  13 minutes would go by before a decision was made to bring one of Fairmont’s tough defenders, Freshman Sam Pochet, forward to play Striker.  Almost immediately, Mack Darner found herself in the left corner with the ball, after beating a few defenders.  She found Sam inside the 18 yard box as she dropped the ball back.  Sam connected with a perfect shot to the far post as it curled into the back corner of the goal for her 1st Career Goal, giving Fairmont a 4-0 lead.  With 15 minutes remaining in the game Captain Mary Ayres received the ball and dished it off to Mack DarnerMack connected with a shot past the keeper and into the goal for another Fairmont Goal!  Time began ticking down as there were about 5 minutes remaining in the game.  Sophomore Savanna Vickers received the ball outside the 18 yard box from Corinne Tew.  Savanna once again fired a strong shot, past the keeper, for the Hat-Trick!!  With Savanna’s 3 goals, she now leads the JV squad in goals with 7 and in points with 18!!  Fairmont would finish the game with 36 shots as they sealed their 6-0 Victory.
