The Women’s Soccer teams traveled to Fairfield High School on Saturday for non-conference matches against the Indians.
JV only managed to take 3 shots, but made their limited opportunities count. With momentum swinging back and forth the entire game, both teams played solid defense. With 8 and a half minutes remaining in the first half Mac Donoher slotted the ball through the defense to Annabel Shone, who was off to a breakaway. She dribbled the ball past the goalkeeper and tapped it into the back of the net for the game’s lone goal. The Firebird’s exceptional defense and goalkeeping by Lily Nickell earned their second Shut-Out victory of the season!
Varsity played a skilled Fairfield team and were unable to capitalize on any of their 7 shots. The Indians were able to outnumber the Firebird defense halfway through the first half to take a lead off a pass on the ground to an open player standing about 12 yards out from the goal. As the Firebirds fought hard to try to claw their way back into the game, the Indians were able to net a second goal halfway through the second half, in what looked like a replay of the first half goal.
