The Fairmont Wrestling Firebirds rebounded from a tough first day to finish a strong 5th in the final installment of the 20-team GWOC Championships.
Nevan Snodgrass led the way with a dominant performance en route to his 3rd GWOC title in as many tries. Snodgrass registered 3 pins and a technical fall and scored 29.5 team points. Jaeden Crowe earned a berth in the finals with 3 dominant wins to wrestle above his # 3 seed.
Noah Maas turned in his best outing of the year with a 4th place finish at 106 (from a # 6 seed). John Conley (# 6 seed) and Drew Altick (unseeded) both wrestled above their seeds to finish 5th at 132 and 120, respectively. Evan Overholser kicked in a 5th place finish at 145 while Ali Salih notched a 6th place at 182.
All 12 of the Firebirds scored points and showed some fight, especially on the 2nd day of the event.
Fairmont is in action again when they start the “Road to Columbus” at the Centerville 1 Sectional on Feb. 22-23.
