The Fairmont men’s JV soccer team topped Dayton Christian on Thursday, 1-0, with the lone goal scored by freshman Julian Doninger. Junior Abdollah Alazzawi and sophomore Nik Aregood played roles in the creation of that goal, helping JV to its fourth win of the season. It also was junior goalkeeper Carter Haas’ fifth shutout of the season. JV is 4-8-2 on the year.
The Fairmont men’s varsity soccer team didn’t fare as well Thursday, coming up on the shorter end of the scoreline against DC at 2-1.
The varsity’s goal came after senior Nash Infanto played a long ball ahead of senior Lucas Gregory, who did well to chase down the pass and beat a defender and finish at a tough angle for the Birds. Varsity falls to 4-10-1 on the season.
The Birds play their last regular-season games on Saturday at home against Loveland. JV plays at 3 p.m. and varsity at 5 p.m.
