The Fairmont men’s varsity soccer team traveled to Washington Township on Tuesday to play Miami Valley School and came away with a long-overdue victory, beating the Rams 3-0.
The Birds scored first on a play that reminded some of a certain U8 Metro Rapids team from way back. Senior Trevor Conlon sprinted up to the center of the field from defense to play a long angled cross to senior captain Peyton Barnes, who was making a run toward goal before expertly collecting the pass and finishing strong into the back of the net. The next goal was another senior-to-senior-with-some-other-seniors-thrown-in effort, as a lofted corner kick from senior captain Miles Kelley bounced around the box, was touched by Peyton and possibly junior Fabrice Uwihirwe, before senior Lucas Gregory directed a short pass to senior Nash Infanto, who double nutmegged a defender and the keeper to slot the ball into the goal. The third goal was the product of Nash’s excellent cross across the face of the goal, which an MVS defender accidentally knocked in.
Senior Robbie Jenkins and junior Seth Tyson kept clean sheets in the goal.
The win brings the varsity to 2-7-1 on the season, with six regular-season games left to play.
Both teams play in one week, hosting Springfield for Faculty Appreciation Night. JV plays at 5:30 and varsity at 7:15.
