Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Elks Edge Birds 1-0

The Fairmont men’s varsity soccer team put up a great fight against an undefeated Centerville team Thursday night, but fell short by one goal.

The Firebirds defense, led by senior Trevor Conlon, was strong throughout the game, shutting down through balls and cutting off angled passes by the Elks. Each Fairmont player contributed to the team effort, with some crucial moments from senior goalkeeper Robbie Jenkins, sophomore Sam Fiscus and freshman Tyler Adams. Senior captain Peyton Barnes also created some great opportunities up top late in the game.

Earlier in the night, JV fought through a rough game against Centerville, losing 6-0.

The varsity Birds play next on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Miami Valley School. That game is at 5:30 p.m.

Both teams play again on Tuesday, Sept. 25, when the program hosts Springfield for Faculty Appreciation Night.

Even though this will go down as a loss, it is a great shift in momentum based on work and fight. Keep up the good work and GO BIRDS!!
