Varsity Field Hockey got their first loss of the season to league opponent, Ursuline Academy. The Birds played their best game of the season. Both teams went back and forth until the Lions got the first goal with less than 5 minutes left in the 1st half. Ursuline continued with their momentum and scored again at the beginning of the 2nd half. The Birds didn’t let the deficit bring them down. Within 5 minutes of Ursuline’s 2nd goal the Birds answered back with Jackie Sherick (’20) scoring a goal off of an offensive corner. Sherick was not done! She got her 2nd goal of the game and season with 8 minutes left to tie the game. During the minutes to follow the last goal, it looked like the game was going into overtime. Ursuline capitalized on a beautiful opportunity and scored with 5 minutes left to go to break the tie. Unfortunately the Birds did not have the time to come back. Hana Tinch (’19) had a defensive save and Rayne Liddy (’19) had 13 goalie saves. Fairmont had 4 offensive corners and 9 defensive corners.
Varsity Field Hockey is now 2-1-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in the league.
The Birds next game is against Olentangy Liberty on Saturday, 15 September at 11am.
