The Wrestling Firebirds began “The Road to Columbus” over the weekend at the Centerville 1 Sectional on February 23-24, 2018.
As a team, the Firebirds finished 3rd in the toughest Dayton-area sectional. All 11 Firebirds finished in the top 6 in their weight class, of which 8 qualified for the District Championships at Trent Arena on March 2-3, 2018.
Leading the way was sophomore Nevan Snodgrass who dominated while winning 160 pound title. Nevan had 2 pins and a Tech Fall en route to his 2nd career sectional title.
Juniors Gavin Fogel (138) and Elijah Woodroof (195) both advanced to the finals before falling to the # 1 seed in their weight class.
Senior Michael Maas (126), junior Jaeden Crowe (220), and sophomore Evan Overholser (132) all came back from tough semifinal losses to finish 3rd place.
Rounding out the Firebird district qualifiers were senior Caleb Ueckert (170) and sophomore Ali Salih (182), who both finished 4th.
Juniors Drew Altick (120) and Bobby Robbins (145) finished 5th and will serve as District Alternates while sophomore Trent Williams finished 6th in a tough 152 pound weight.
The District Championships begin this coming Friday, March 2nd at 4:00 pm at Trent Arena.
