The Lady Firebird’s competed in the Dayton sectional tournament on Friday and Saturday and had great results.
Sam Turner, Lindsay Juhasz and Emma Fugate competed in the singles draw.
Hannah Jones, Jamie Pacenta, Ally Hesse, and Katie West competed in the doubles draw.
Lindsay played on Wednesday in a match against Aripova (West Carrollton) and was victorious 6-0, 6-0
Emma competed on Thursday indoors at KTC against Fails (Monroe) and won 6-0, 6-0
Sam played well and defeated Langdon (Lebanon) 6-0, 6-0
Lindsay battled, but came up short against Venkatramani (Beavercreek) 6-1, 6-1
Emma took on the #3 seed Garofoli (eventual sectional champion) and played a tremendous match, but lost in straight sets 6-1, 6-1
Hannah/Jamie took on Tschantz/Leftwich (Bellbrook) and won 6-1, 6-1
Ally/Katie def Camp/M. Alappatt from Centerville in a tight match 7-6, 6-4.
Sam’s opponent for this round was #4 seed Dhaliwal from Centerville. She got out to a quick start winning the first set, but Dhaliwal charged back and defeated Sam. 2-6. 6-2, 6-0.
Hannah/Jamie played great in round 2 and defeated Carfora/Mills (Centerville) 6-4, 6-2
Ally/Katie rolled over Gustin/Colangelo (Lebanon) 6-2, 6-0
Round 3: (District Qualifying Round)
Ally/Katie took on the #3 seed from Beavercreek (Hu/Jaio) and played hard, but came up short 6-0, 6-2
Hannah/Jamie played a high quality team from Miamisburg (Raj/Campbell). They got a slow start and lost the first set 6-3, but battled back to win the second set 6-3. Miamisburg stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the third set, before the Bird’s stormed back and won the next 6 games to capture the match! Score 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Hannah and Jamie took on the top seeds A. Patel/R. Patel from Springboro. They competed hard, but the team was too strong. Score: 6-0, 6-0
Consolation (3rd Place):
Hannah/Jamie faced the same Beavercreek team that Ally/Katie played in Rd. 3. The first set was decided by a single break of serve. The second set was full of breaks of serve as the wind picked up. Jamie held serve in the 8th game to put the Bird’s up for good. The final set was a close battle in the beginning, but Creek pulled away for the victory, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
