The Fairmont Boy’s wrapped up a great season in the past few weeks! The team played well in the postseason tournaments and received multiple awards.

Sectional Summary:

The Bird’s were 6-4 on the day. Both doubles teams faced very difficult draws and fell in their 1st matches. Sully O’Hara won his first round match then faced the #1 overall seed (Berry, Springboro) in the tournament in his final match of the year. Daniel Bendel advanced through the first and second round by defeating a player from Lebanon and Middletown. His run was ended by the #2 seed from Beavercreek (Hayden). Ian Steiner (#4 seed) quickly reached the 2nd round winning over a player from Middletown, he then had a 2+ hr battle with a player from Springboro winning in 3 sets. The district qualifying round he faced Poe from Centerville. He won in a grueling 3 set match again to qualify for Districts. On Saturday Ian played Berry from Springboro and took the most games off of the eventual champion. In the consulation round he played Tyler Smith from Centerville and put up a great fight before falling 4-5, 5-7.

Districts Summary:

Ian Steiner traveled to the ATP tennis center in Mason for Districts this past week as a member of the top 64 singles tennis players in the state. His first round opponent was Luke Tsai from Mason. Luke is a 3 time state qualifier and played Ian very tough. Ian fell in 2 sets to Luke to conclude the season for the Firebird’s. Ian mentioned after the match that he is hungry to get back to districts next year.

Post-Season Honors:

The team ended their season as the 9th best team in Division I in the Miami Valley. The coaches poll is sponsored through the MVTCA.
