The boy’s had a busy last week of the regular season facing 4 opponents.
On Monday, the team celebrated senior night and hosted Miami Valley. The team fought hard against a top notch opponent. The final match score was 0-5.
The rivalry with Alter was on tap for Wednesday. The team got off to a quick start by winning at 1st singles, Ian Steiner, and 2nd singles, Daniel Bendel. We fell at 1st doubles and 3rd singles, but eventually took the match by defeating the Knights at 2nd doubles. Match score: 3-2. This marks the first defeat of Alter since 2010.
The team travelled to Bulter on Thursday. The shining spot was at 3rd singles, Sully O’Hara, he made short work of his opponent to capture the lone victory of the day. Match score 1-4.
The final regular season match was in Springfield on Friday. The Bird’s played very tought losing a close match at 1st singles, 3rd singles, and 1st doubles (3 sets). Daniel Bendel played an amazing match and found a way to win in 2+ hours, defeating a former district qualifer in the 3rd set. Match score 1-4.
The team finished 8-10 on the season.
The team was once again ranked in the MVTCA coaches poll, 8th.
Monday the team was home along with the varsity players for senior night. We got a chance to recognize our 3 senior jv players which was a great way to end the night. The team also had a great doubles victory by Stephen Blackman and Yinan Zhang. Match Score 0-5.
On Wednesday the Stiver varsity squad came to town. The jv players have typically played against Stivers and done very well. This year was the exception. The Tigers were a bit too strong this year. Match score 0-5.
Both teams travelled to Bulter on Thursday and the jv player nearly pulled out the victoy. The team was victious at 1st doubles, Oliver Wuensch/Matt Kenney. Stephen Blackman was leading at 3rd singles, but unfortunately had to retire due to an injury. Brandon Hosford fought to a deciding tiebreaker for the match, but was unable to clinch the victoy. Match score 2-3.
Friday marked the final match for the jv players. Springfield came to town and brought some tough players. Match score 0-5.
The team finished the season with an 8-11 record. It was a great season, full of lots of excitement and some great tennis. Each player improved greatly throughout the season.
